I’m a fan of forums. Yeah, I know, it probably sounds a bit old-fashioned. Maybe you’d rather call it something fancy like “vintage,” so I don’t feel too out of date. That’s okay: I’ve got my own nostalgias too, and in this case, I’m happy to admit I’m a bit old-school.
Social media is great for giving a web project a voice, but what I’m after goes beyond one-way communication. I want to share whatever might be useful to others while learning from the insights that others bring to specific topics. What really draws me in is being part of a community built around a shared passion, a place to talk, plan meetups, solve problems, and, best of all, do it all for free. Pure “wiki spirit”1, from the old-school days of the genuine internet.
Since my teenage years, I’ve been part of communities and forums like these, and my experiences have been nothing but positive. There’s no room for haters there: they get bored quickly, because what matters isn’t the self but the community. They’ve helped me a lot over the years (with photography, bike mechanics, travel) and that’s why I’d like to create a space that captures the essence of Deriva Lenta, a project that goes far beyond a single niche.
Still, I have to admit the critics (the imaginary ones in my head) kind of have a point: setting up a web forum these days does feel a bit old-fashioned. For me, Telegram is the natural evolution of those old forums. It offers endless possibilities and a much more comfortable, intuitive way to connect.
That’s why I want to launch a Deriva Lenta Telegram group, in the hope that, little by little, a community will take shape where we can share, learn together, and enjoy our own experiences even more through those of others. It’s not something I’ll be running myself; the idea is for all of us to build a kind and lively community together.
If you’d like to join this little family that’s just beginning, share your experiences, and learn from others, the door is open: 👉 Join the Deriva Lenta Telegram group.
